What is the payment reference?

We ask you to add a payment reference when sending money to a person or company.

This payment reference could be:

1. A company reference number
   
   You’ll see this printed on your bill, for example your credit card bill.
   
   
2. Barclaycard or credit or store card payments
   
   The reference number is the long card number.
   
   
3.  A reference for friends
   
   You could type something like ‘birthday gift’ since you can use words as well as numbers. 

 The reference will appear on both your statement and your recipient’s.
